My name is Lucia Piotraszewski and I am a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Washington. I have backgrounds in biomechanics and manufacturing, and I hope to combine my experiences with my passion for helping animals to work in veterinary prosthetics in the future!
My ultimate goal is to be a role model for aspiring engineers, especially young girls, who may not already have someone like themselves to look up to. I grew up without an engineering role model that “looked like me” and that I could picture myself as, but I was still lucky enough to have a strong support network to help me get to where I am today. I hope that one day I can be someone’s inspiration for going into engineering, and that they can develop the same passion for motivating the next generation of engineers to follow their dreams.
I hope to continue mentoring and work in outreach events for women and minorities in STEM. STEM as a field has a long way to go in terms of improving representation, and I want to continue doing my part to show everyone that there is a place for them in STEM. I plan on gradually moving into more career-development outreach so I can connect with college and newly graduated students and help them begin their careers.
