Kirby Record
Pr. Kirby Record was born in 1947 in the state of Indiana, USA. He studied classics, linguistics and literature at Indiana University where he earned three degrees. Former Olympic freestyle wrestling national Champion of Indiana, he has lectured at Indiana University, Arkansas State University, and Harvard University, in America, the Institut Teknologi MARA in Malaysia and Showa Women's University, Keio University, Chuo University, and Akita International University, in Japan. Kirby Record has published four books of poems, including a volume of haiku (bilingual in English and Japanese), titled "All Night Long" (with Banta & Pool, LLC, 2013), many essays, and eight books on language, language teaching, and literature. He worked at Yamanashi Gakuin University, as the Director of Language Programs and professor. Besides an intense interest in photography and the writing of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, Kirby Record likes to read widely on many subjects, go to art museums, and engage in sports, especially climbing mountains, physical training, and qi gong standing meditation.
Henry David Thoreau best expressed his philosophy of life in these lines from Walden:
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."."
