LSW_BTE_2024 Tennis Information Text List

Parent Information:

1. The best place to get updated practice and meet information will be on this site!

2. Home meets start @ 4:00, players need to be at the playing site by 3:45. Varsity home meets are played@Woods Tennis Center, unless otherwise noted on the schedule. J.V./Res meets are played at the home teams courts. All players are responsible for getting themselves to and from a meet that is in Lincoln.

3. Meets consist of playing 1-6 singles matches and 1-3 doubles matches. An 8 game pro-set is used for scoring. (First player to win 8 games, by 2., tie breaker is played @ 8-8. Tournament play is usually structured as follows. You may play, #1 and  #2 singles and #1 and #2 doubles, for a total of six players. Some meets are round robin and some are double elimination. (JV/RES meets use a 6 game set, instead of the 8 pro-set.)

4. Head and Assistant coaches are the only people allowed to talk to the players while the match is in progress. Coaches may only coach for 60 sec on odd side switches. (Coaches are also allowed to talk with players during the 25 seconds period between points)

5. Please understand that the head coach may be monitoring up to six different matches simultaneously. Consequently, it may not be possible to provide coaching to your player during every switch over.

6. We encourage you to support your player's play, but we request that you do so in an appropriate manner. Cheering when the opponent makes a mistake is discouraged. Instead, a simple cheer like "nice point," "good effort," or "way to hang in there" would be appreciated. If you have any questions about tennis rules, feel free to approach one of the coaches after a meet or practice.

7. Many of the places we play have limited to no seating.  You may want to bring a chair to the meet/tour.

8. Players travel to many meets and tournaments.  We depart and return to the LSW tennis courts. Players are not allowed to ride home from meets/tournaments with parents unless it has been pre-approved with the coach.

9. Tennis Absence Procedures: Tennis Absence Procedures: Unexcused/unapproved absences: Which include classes, practices and meets/tournaments, will be ineligible to participate in the next scheduled contest(s). 

After three unexcused/unapproved absences the athlete could be permanently removed from the team. These absences could include an athlete’s decision to participate in Olympic Development events or National Team participation. "Participation in any Olympic Development event or National Team participation requires a prior approval waiver from the NSAA.  This waiver has to be submitted by the LSW athletic department.  These waivers need to be submitted prior to the season"

Players must maintain a passing grade in each of their current classes to be eligible to participate in meets and tournaments. Players will be eligible to participate when their grade is back in passing status. 

If a tennis player is ill on a school day, they may not participate that in afternoon in practice, meet or tournament. (This does not include school approved absences or medical appointments.)

10. If players are not passing a class, they will still be able to practice.

VARSITY TENNIS LETTER REQUIREMENT:

Letter Requirements - Players must maintain a positive attitude towards improving as a player. Able to work with LSW coaching staff, team members, and opponents. The tennis athlete is able to conduct themselves in the proper manner on and off the court. The tennis athlete must complete the tennis season in order to earn a varsity letter in tennis. (unless there is a injury, which would not allow the athlete to complete the season.) 35 Varsity Points. Players must also earn the required varsity pts in Meets and Tournaments. Players may earn varsity pts for playing, 1-6 singles and 1-3 doubles. Meet points are awarded as follows: 1pt for playing a match 1pt for winning a match Tournament points are awarded as follows: 3pts for competing in the tournament 1pt for winning a match  Example if you play singles and doubles in a meet, you could possible earn 4pts. for this event.  Example if you play singles/doubles in a tournament, you could earn 3pts. for participating and 1 pts for each win.
