Donate gently used books.
Bring up to two grocery bags of gently used books to the La Selva Beach branch during business hours.
(Please do not leave outside.) Please feel free to bring extra to the Capitola Mall location of the Friends of the Library.
Friends of the Library Book Carts.
Purchase books from the two book carts at the main Florido (East) entrance to the La Selva Beach Branch.
Please put donations in the cash box on the end of the largest blue cart.
Carts will be inside during inclement weather.
Our greatest contributor is Deluxe Foods.
On checkout, ask that your purchase be contributed to the La Selva Beach Branch Library,
and Deluxe will donate 5% of your purchase to our library chapter.
Used Book Sales ~
We have two book sales annually - Books and Brews Summer Fair on July 29, 2023 and the Holiday Fair on November 18, 2023.
Some of the ways that the Friends use their funds....
~ Supplementation of the SCPL System Summer Reading Program with additional events that we plan to do annually. We are supporting the very popular "LEGO Simple Machines Studio" weekly event by our purchase of additional LEGOs for the children's use.
~ We continue to buy books for the Browsing Bookshelf. Check it out! Every month we purchase newly released fiction and nonfiction bestsellers. Currently we have about 200 books and 80 DVDs in the collection and an average of 80 books are checked out at any given time.
~ We replaced three very heavy wood tables with three new tables that have wheels and flip tops for easy mobility. Also provided were electrical receptacles for laptops and other devices.
Twenty comfortable wheeled chairs were provided to replace unwieldy heavy chairs. During the week staff frequently has to move tables and chairs for different programs so the the new furniture makes re-arrangement much easier. A mobile display cart to display seasonal or special collections was also contributed.
~ Annually we buy magazine subscriptions for children and adults.
~ A bar code duplicating machine was purchased to create the additional book bar code required for the self- check machines installed at all branches. The machine was utilized at our branch and then given to the library system for use at other branches.
~ We have donated $1000 to the Friends Technology Fund to illustrate our commitment to the library system as well as our particular branch. system for use at other branches.
~ We have donated $50,000 to provide new books for the La Selva Beach Branch Library.
