Friends of the La Selva Beach Branch Library and the
community of La Selva Beach are proud of our little library.
The Friends of the La Selva Beach Branch Library have made the Library a central part of the community. Activities, such as the Sand Castle Building Classes, Book Clubs, e-reader workshops and the Summer Programs, have brought patrons back to our Library. The LSB Branch chapter was formed in the fall of 2009 after our branch received drastic cuts in hours.
The chapter has been raising funds with local book sales and donations from our community. The chapter organized a browsing collection of bestsellers for library patrons and underwritten successful workshops. They purchased a bar code duplicating machine to add the additional bar codes required for the self check machines, installed at all branches. Chapter member volunteers utilized the machine to add the bar code to our collection and then the machine was given to the library system for use at other branches. In 2010 the Friends of LSB Branch Library celebrated the 60th birthday of the branch with readings by children's authors, a reptile show, an exhibit of e-readers and of course, birthday cake.
The Friends will continue to find ways of serving the community.
They have underwriten the after school program which includes Homework Help, Lego Machines, Wii, Minecraft and other activities. We have supported a "Homework Helper" program for all students. We are also researching possibilities for additional workshops and activities for adults. We will have again a Movie discussion group, Movie Club, three book groups, and an arm chair travel. The chapter continues to be pro-active.
