Tri-M stands for Modern Music Masters and is a program supported by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). It is the only national honor society in the United States exclusively for junior high and high school students involved in music. Tri-M recognizes and celebrates students who demonstrate academic excellence, musical achievement, and a commitment to service. At LRHS, our Tri-M student leaders play an active role in supporting the school’s music programs. They volunteer at concerts and events, assist with performances, and lead fundraising efforts to benefit the department—all while embodying the values of leadership, service, and dedication to music.
What does it all mean???
That which is new in any age is called modern. It is only in looking back that descriptions such as old, classical, or romantic are given to those art forms that had formerly been accepted as modern. Tri-M is a youth organization that adds new, young members each year, therefore, our society will never grow old but will be eternally modern.
The Random House Dictionary of the English Language, defines 'Music' as: "the art of sound that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.” In Tri-M, our student leaders engage with, and demonstrate a passion for, music in all forms. Music is the common bind between our leaders, and the art that drives their commitment to serve.
In the art field, the title of master is given to those who have achieved a high degree of proficiency. LRHS student Tri-M leaders have all met that criteria. As “masters,” Tri-M members have an increased ability to serve their school and community within the context of their love and mastery of music.
