Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes I

November 25-27, 2006, ISI Delhi:

In the first meeting which was held at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi Centre in November 2006, there were twenty two participants. The announcement of the meeting was enthusiastically received by the community. Time being short, funding was provided in part by research grants and institutional funds. Moreover, several participants also chipped in with personal funds to make the meeting a success. By all accounts the participants felt the meeting achieved its goal and it was decided to continue this workshop series. Two minicourses were offered by Arup Bose of ISI, Kolkata on Random Matrices and Siva Athreya of ISI, Bangalore on Random Graphs.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes II

November 23-27, 2007, ISI Bangalore:

The second meeting was held in ISI, Bangalore in November, 2007. The response this time was even better with 26 participants attending the meeting. The meeting was extended to a duration of 5 days with a rest day in between. This time the travel and the stay of the speakers as well as the participants was covered by a grant from National Board of Higher Mathematics. Two minicourses were offered by B. V. Rao of ISI, Kolkata on Random Energy Model and Antar Bandyophyay of ISI, Delhi on Local Weak Convergence Methods.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes III

November 20-24, 2008, ISI Kolkata:

For the first time, one of the minicourses was offered by an expert from outside ISI. Two minicourses were offered by Alain-Sol Sznitman of ETH, Zurich on Random Walks, Random Interlacements and Random Interfaces and Abhay G. Bhatt of ISI, Delhi on Martingale Problems. The number of participants increased to 40. The workshop was funded by Indian Statistical Institute and National Board of Higher Mathematics, Govt. of India.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes IV

November 20-24, 2009, ISI Delhi:

After completing a cycle through three campuses of ISI, the workshop returned to ISI, Delhi. Two minicourses were offered by Rahul Roy of ISI, Delhi on Some Geometric Aspects of Boolean Models and Rajesh Sundaresan of IISc, Bangalore on Information Theory. There were over fifty participants. Starting this time, posters were presented by some of the graduate students participating in the workshop.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes V

December 23-27, 2010, ISI Bangalore:

Following the suggestions from the participants, the workshop was moved from November to December schedule. Two minicourses were offered by Krishanu Maulik of ISI, Kolkata on Heavy Tailed Distributions and S. R. S. Varadhan of Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York on Schramm-Loewner Equations. There were over seventy five participants including about forty research scholars and graduate students. The number of posters presented also increased to ten. From this time, a prize in form of books was aawarded to the best poster determined by a (undisclosed) jury consisting of some of the LPS participants. The Best Poster Award for 2011 went to Rajat S. Hazra of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata for his work on "An inverse problem on randomly wighted series".

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes VI

December 16-20, 2011, ISI Kolkata:

Two minicourses were offered by Manjunath Krishnapur of Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore on Real and complex zeros of random polynomials and analytic functions and Pablo Ferrari of Universidad de Buenos Aires on Point processes, Gibbs measures and random graphs. There were more than 50 participants in the workshop with a healthy proportion of research scholars among them. Out of nine posters by senior research scholars, the best award went to "Sharp threshold properties of left-right crossing in the Poisson Boolean Model" by Ghurumuruhan Ganesan of Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi. Three other posters were also given honourable mention: "Process convergence of self normalized sums on i.i.d. random variables coming from the domain of attraction of stable distribution by Arunangshu Biswas of Presidency College, Kolkata, "Evolutionary stable strategy against multiple mutants" by Anirban Ghatak of Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and "Infinite Color Urn Models" by Debleena Thacker of Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes VII

December 10-14, 2012, ISI Delhi:

Two minicourses were offered by Nina Gantert of Technische Universität München, Germany on Random walks, random media and branching and Anish Sarkar of ISI, New Delhi on Directed trees and their limits. This year the workshop was attended by more than 50 enthusiastic participants. Out of nine posters presented by graduate students, two were awarded for their excellence: Mustafa Khandwawala of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for his work on "Belief Propagation for Optimal Edge-Cover in the Random Complete Graph" and Kumarjit Saha of Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi for his work on "Directed Spanning Forest and Brownian Web".

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes VIII

December 6-10, 2013, ISI Bangalore:

Two minicourses were offered by Vivek Borkar of Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai on Ergodicity of diffusions and controlled diffusions and Parthanil Roy of ISI, Kolkata on Nonsingular Group Actions, Finitely Generated Abelian Groups and Stable Random Fields. Nearly sixty researchers actively participated in the workshop. There were more than 55 participants. Out of 7 posters presented by the student participants, Kumarjit Saha of Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi won the best poster award for his work on "Some Quantitative Estimates on a Drainage Network Model".

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes IX

December 12-16, 2014, ISI Kolkata:

Two minicourses were offered by Gennady Samorodnitsky of Cornell University, Ithaca, U.S.A. on Long Range Dependence and by S. Ramasubramanian of Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore on Skorohod Problem and Insurance Models. Fifteen posters were presented. The best poster award was given jointly to Kartick Adhikari of IISc Bangalore for the work "Gap Probabilities in the Infinite Ginibre Ensemble" and to Ayan Bhattacharya of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata for the work "Point Process Convergence for Branching Random Walk with Heavy-tailed Step Size".

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes X

December 13-16, 2015, IISc Bangalore:

This time the event was held in the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. There was one minicourse on "Markov chains: Mixing time, cover time, and rate of escape" which was offered by Yuval Peres, Microsoft Research, Redmond, U.S.A. There were five posters. Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes XI

November 25 - 29, 2016, ISI Delhi:

There were two minicourses, offered by Davar Khoshnevisan of University of Utah on Parabolic SPDEs and by Mokshay Madiman of University of Delaware on convexity theory of probability measures. There were sixty five participants, of which, three presented posters and thirteen gave short talks. The participants went for an excursion to Humayun's tomb and Nizamuddin Aulia's stepwell.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes XII

December 15 - 19, 2017, ISI Kolkata:

In LPS XII, the two minicourses were offered by Arvind Ayyer of the Indian Institute of Science and Nathanaël Berestycki of the University of Cambridge. The respective topics were "Exclusion processes with drift" and "An introduction to the Gaussian free field and Liouville quantum gravity". There were eight short talks and eight posters. The meeting was attended by seventy five participants.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes XIII

December 7 - 11, 2018, ISI, Bangalore:

Deepak Dhar of IISER Pune and Kavita Ramanan of Brown University offerred minicourses on "Stochastic evolution in the Minority Game" and "Scaling limits of interacting particle systems", respectively. There were seventy seven participants, of which nine presented posters and nine gave short talks. On the 9th of December, the participants went for a hike to Ramanagara. The meeting was supported in part by ISI, an ISF-UGC Grant, and the MATRICS grants from SERB.

Lectures on Probability and Stochastic Processes XIV

December 2 - 6, 2019, ISI, Delhi:

Ron Peled of Tel Aviv university and Srikanth Iyer of IISc Bangalore offered minicourses on "Statistical physics on the Z^d lattice: Proper colorings and height functions" and "Geometric Random Graphs", respectively. There were forty four participants. In addition there were eight short talks and seven poster presentations by the participants. On the 4th of December, the participants visited the Purana Kila (old fort). The meeting was supported in part by ISI, NBHM an ISF-UGC Grant, and the MATRICS grants from SERB.
