LIBERTARIAN PARTY OF BREVARD APPLAUDS COURT RULING 

RESTORING SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS TO YOUNG ADULTS

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The Libertarian Party of Brevard County (LP Brevard) applauds the recent Florida appeals court decision overturning the Republican ban on concealed carry for adults ages 18 to 20, marking a significant advancement for individual liberty and self-defense.

For years, policymakers in Tallahassee have restricted the Second Amendment rights of young adults, treating civil rights as privileges. Today, the courts have addressed this overreach.

"If you are old enough to vote, pay taxes, get married, and serve in uniform at Patrick Space Force Base, you are old enough to carry a firearm to defend your own life," said Karl Dickey, Chair for LP Brevard. "On the Space Coast, we have 18-to-20-year-olds building rockets, writing code, and assisting our local economy. The idea that they are mature enough to die for their country but not mature enough to exercise their natural right to self-defense is absurd. The Second Amendment does not come with an 'Over 21' asterisk."

While some policymakers and advocacy groups have sought to limit these rights, LP Brevard and pro-liberty advocates statewide have consistently opposed such measures. We affirm that the right to keep and bear arms is inherent, not granted by the government.

However, the effort to secure full liberty continues. Those who supported this ban may seek new ways to challenge Floridians' rights.
