As a previous educator, Dr. Id-Deen’s educational foundation was built on creating a safe, relatable classroom for her students. With both determination and compassion for students and teachers, Dr. Lateefah’s love for math is the backbone of Loyal Educational Consulting.
Dr. Id-Deen has written several articles and book chapters that highlight social justice pedagogies and culturally responsive instructional practices that promote positive student–teacher relationships. She showcases the ways teachers can affirm mathematics identities, and cultivate belongingness to support students’ learning experiences in mathematics classrooms is evident in her work. For example, Dr. Id-Deen is the co-author of Middle School Mathematics Lesson to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice, which sets the foundation for social justice mathematics, co-author of Disrupting Injustice: Navigating Critical Moments in the Clasroom which highlights critical moments individual teachers have faced by describing instances when mathematics teachers (un)intentionally create more just and equitable classrooms or schools, and other articles that shares strategies and reflections to support Black students in math class.
Further, her research sheds light on ways to support underrepresented groups in higher education, specifically STEAM majors and careers. Her work is an inspiration for her journey of helping schools give marginalized communities an equitable math experience.
As a current Associate Professor of Mathematics Education, Dr. Id-Deen works alongside prospective and current teachers, curriculum developers, and other educational constituents in schools and districts that want to incorporate culturally relevant and equitable mathematics instructional strategies in mathematics classrooms across the country.
Dr. Id-Deen also investigates culturally responsive instructional practices that promote student-teacher relationships, affirm mathematics identities, and cultivate belongingness to support students’ learning experiences in mathematics classes. Her work is a reflection of her passion to create equitable learning environments for historically marginalized students in mathematics classrooms.
