CARE 4 THE GIVERS
In 2016, Monique's fraternal grandmother, Mary Burkhalter-Thomas, started to succumb to breast cancer. Her dad and his siblings rallied around her grandmother to honor her wishes to not be put into Hospice care. Monique and her sisters helped out their dad, aunts and uncle by sitting with their grandmother in her last days. Making sure she was comfortable and never alone. This experience planted a seed of passion to help other caregivers with their loved ones.
In 2015, Monique’s mother, Patricia “Mrs. Pat” Burkhalter, was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s. Monique served and took care of her mother until she transitioned, November 25, 2020. It was during the years of taking care of her mother that she intimately experienced the ups and downs of caregiving. Fortunately, Monique had a circle of support that helped her stay physically, mentally and financially healthy. And it was the unwavering love, friendship and support of her sister and god brother, LaToya Simmons and Andre Griffin, that inspired the name Care 4 The Givers.
Care 4 The Givers is a faith-based, non-medical companion/care-giving program. It is different from any other because it is designed to support both caregivers;
1) The caregiver responsible for the patient
2) Our mobile Companion Caregivers.
We support the patients' caregivers by giving them flexibility to do things they were used to doing before they became a caregiver of their loved one(s).
We collect and distribute products to help with their loved one’s personal and transitional care (i.e. adult bibs, bed pads, rollators, lifting recliners).
We provide emotional/spiritual support to the caregiver that has a loved one facing end of physical life.
OUR VISION
In caring for caregivers and their loved ones, we value Dignity, Compassion and Safety.
Care 4 The Givers will support our Companion Caregivers with flexibility by sending two of them to interview the patient’s family. Why? Because most people that love to do this have injured themselves physically, have their own families that need attention, and have other dreams and passions for their lives. This will allow the patients’ families to be comfortable with two people.
We will help our Companion Caregivers with some of the expenses that comes with their passion such as
1. A gas card and personal protection equipment on a quarterly basis.
2. Free training.
3. Mentors to help them stay the course of professional and compassionate caregiving.
