Pinara -  A Pinnacle of Wonder

The ancient city of Pinara, set against the stunning backdrop of Lycia, is a place that demands more than one visit. Our first trip was so captivating that we were drawn back, convinced that even several visits wouldn't do justice to its depth and allure.

Pinara's history dates back to the Lycian Federation in the 5th century BCE, marking it as a significant archaeological and historical site. The city's unique name, thought to mean 'round' due to its rounded acropolis, hints at its intriguing past and the mysteries it holds.

Our second journey to Pinara was even more special as we brought our dogs along. They thoroughly enjoyed the climb up the mountain, weaving through the ancient tombs that pepper the landscape. These tombs, carved directly into the rock, offer a silent yet profound narrative of the city's ancient inhabitants.

During our exploration, we encountered young Turkish sheepherders in a scene that felt as timeless as the ruins themselves. Watching them care for newborn lambs offered a glimpse into the enduring pastoral lifestyle that continues amidst these historical wonders.

Pinara's natural beauty is as striking as its history. The city's location offers breathtaking views of dense forests stretching into the distance, a testament to the region's unspoiled beauty. It's a place where history and nature intertwine, providing a serene yet profound experience.

Among the ruins, from the theatre to the agora and the remains of ancient temples, there's a palpable sense of history that's both humbling and inspiring. The way nature has reclaimed parts of the site, with wildflowers and greenery weaving through the stone, highlights the enduring dance between human history and the natural world.

Pinara is more than just an archaeological site; it's a destination that resonates with those intrigued by the past and enchanted by nature's beauty. Its combination of historical depth and natural splendor makes it a must-visit for anyone looking to delve into the heart of ancient civilizations.

Leaving Pinara for the second time, we felt a mix of fulfillment and curiosity, already planning our next visit to uncover more of its hidden stories and soak in its tranquil, natural beauty. Pinara is not just a journey back in time; it's an ongoing adventure that continues to unfold with each visit.
