about

koro loko means "heart place" in Esperanto ("one who hopes"), a universal language created in the 1880s to foster international peace and cooperation. In our heart place, we hope to conjure reflection on just that.

Our koro loko contains a three-dimensional heart formed hundreds of dichroic plexiglass squares, reflecting the full spectra of light . Daytime gives the impression of a light, ephemeral structure with intricate detailing upon closer inspection. Under the darkness of night, the heart sparkles and reflects light from the spotlights mounted on lightpost surrounding it. Our lightposts are snuggled by comfy benches (containing interactive easter eggs!) for a place to sit, reflect, and connect (or take a nap!).

Philosophy To us, art should use our innate attraction to beauty to draw participants into a deeper conversation around the nature of our being-in-the-world. It should interrupt the routine monteniety of life and cause us to wonder. Specifically, in this project we hope to engage participants with reflection on the following:

Love is a word that’s said often, and yet we rarely contemplate what it means to engage in the act of loving. What do we do to make love more than a word, to make it an action? What does it mean to love our own selves, to love each other, to love this planet and the people who give us life?

To engage with this question encourages us to become more fully-realized versions of ourselves. More than ever, the social, political and ecological turmoil facing our planet calls us to do so.

The mission of this project is to provide a space for reflection on the action of love.
