About: For newcomers, learning Dutch is essential. It offers them opportunities for education and work, access to healthcare, social contacts and more. In short, it determines their integration and well-being. Those who emigrated as refugees have often experienced traumatising events. This can lead to stress, concentration problems and memory problems, which can make learning difficult. This also presents schools and teachers with new challenges. This research project at Radboud University aims to bring insight into the link between learners' psychological well-being and learning Dutch. We investigate this in children and adults who have fled from Ukraine.

About: Literacy Education and Second Language Learning for Adults (LESLLA) is an organisation which aims to support migrant adults learning to read and write for the first time in a new language, and their teachers. Since the founding of the organisation in 2005, research into second language learners with emerging literacy and limited/interrupted formal education experience has continued to grow year on year. The LESLLA research database aims is to collaboratively and comprehensively draw together our knowledge of existing studies, as well as disseminate our own work to other members of our LESLLA community.
