Projects

Apple

At Apple, I design and implement software protocols and wireless features for LTE/5G modems spanning RF, PHY, and MAC, with focus on performance and power budget. My features run on millions of devices every day.

Northeastern University

At Northeastern University, I have conducted innovative research in several fields of wireless communications. Below are my most relevant projects.

Supporting aerial users in 5G-and-beyond

Cellular-connected UAVs can enable a wide range of applications: from drone-sourced video streaming to beyond-line-of-sight flight control. The cellular infrastructure, however, was not designed with these applications in mind. I designed a new solution to support aerial users on 5G-and-beyond.

Optimizing mmWave aerial links

mmWave is a promising technology for the backhaul operations of non-terrestrial networks. I studied and characterized the mmWave aerial channel and designed new link management solutions for aerial links.

SDN for non-terrestrial UAV networks

Wireless backhaul will be a crucial part of future non-terrestrial wireless networks. How to control and optimize the performance of such deployments, which feature fragile and latency-inherent backhauling operations? I designed a new architectural solution.

Beamforming-based spectrum sharing

I implemented a new spectrum sharing technique based on digital beamforming. A multi antenna TX can dynamically adapt its precoding technique to the ongoing wireless activity on the channel, in a CR fashion.

Arena: An indoor wireless testing platform

I designed and led the deployment of Arena, a new indoor wireless testing platform for spectrum research. Arena features 64 antennas hanging off the ceiling of a large office space, 32 synchronized SDR, and it is accessible over the Internet.
