In 2024-2025 I benefited from a postodoctoral grant as a part of the PRIN project The Varieties of Grounding, working with professor Ciro De Florio in the unit of the Università Cattolica of Milan. During my stay I participated to various events of the project, and worked on a paper with the research unit of the Università Cattolica (see Work in Progress).
Between 2021-2023, I was a Juan de la Cierva fellow, working with the Episteme research group in Santiago de Compostela (n° FJC2019-040034-I). The name of my project was "Metaphysics and ontological commitment to dispositions in an anti-Humean world", and its overall goal was to explore the ontological and metaphysical commitments of philosophers with anti-Humean sympathies, especially when it comes to causal powers. In Santiago, my project was a component of a state-sponsored project of the Episteme research group, focusing on ontological and meta-ontological deflationism.
The most prominent publication output of my project (but not the only one!) was the book Dispositional Reality, published under the Synthese Library at Springer. As a development of earlier positions in my publication history, this book offers an ontologically lightweight, yet still metaphysically substantial, theory of powers. Its theoretical underpinning focuses on the notion of metaphysical structure and perspicuity, and unlike most of its competitors, it does not require the reification of objects, properties, or facts.
As an honorary member of Episteme, I still try to participate to the activities in Santiago de Compostela whenever possible. I thought a graduate course on dynamicity as late as summer 2025 (see Teaching and Dissemination).
In 2020-2021, I received a postdoctoral grant at the University of Bergamo, working on theories of properties and modality under the supervision of professor Andrea Bottani. From 2021 onward, I was also "Cultore della Materia" in professor Bottani's course on ontology and metaphysics (M/FIL-01).
In May 2019, I organized, together with Andrea Raimondi, the conference "New Foundations of Dispositionalism", meant as a consolidation of the research on power ontology and metaphysics, and anti-Humean theories more broadly. The idea was to pair senior invited speakers (such as Barbara Vetter, Freie Universität Berlin; Stephen Mumford and Matthew Tugby, Durham University; Neil Williams, University at Buffalo), with younger and up-and-coming researchers (such as Lisa Vogt, Toby Friend, Giacomo Giannini, Joaquim Giannotti, Donatella Donati, and others). The conference was financed by Mind, Analysis, the Royal Institute of Philosophy, and the University of Exeter -where the conference took place.
Together with Andrea Raimondi, I also co-edited a Synthese Topical Collection based on the conference.
For two years, between 2018 and 2021, I was a Teaching Assistant in the course Critical Thinking at the Bocconi University of Milan.
I received my PhD at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, on October 31th, 2018.
Earlier still, I received my BA and MA at the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, in Milan.
