For Volunteers

The YMCA Learning Opportunities Program (LOP) provides skills upgrading for adults 18 years and older to help them achieve their goal of employment, further education, apprenticeship or greater independence. Services includes small group instruction, personalized tutoring, online training and basic computer and other digital technology skills training. Employment coaches are also available on site. Volunteers partner with staff to help participants improve reading, writing, math, computer and/or life skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting individuals or small groups to improve reading, writing, numeracy or computer skills.
  • Using a learner-centered approach in order to help participants achieve literacy goals.
  • Providing support and encouragement to motivate participants.
  • Updating staff on participant’s progress.
