Hello, I’m Chris Lopez Mazariegos. Originally from San Rafael, California. I’m a passionate individual with a love for coffee, books, and music. Whether I’m immersed in a gripping novel or enjoying the beats during a run, these are the moments I treasure.
In addition to being known for my even-tempered nature, sarcasm, and determination, I’m a dedicated student pursuing my B.S Psychology degree at DUC. Outside the classroom, you'll find me exploring new places, meeting interesting people and cherishing moments with friends.
As a psychology major at Dominican University of California, my choice of this institution is rooted in several compelling factors. The program's emphasis on understanding human behavior and mental processes aligns perfectly with my academic interests and career aspirations.
Beyond the academic opportunities, the campus itself is a haven of tranquility and natural beauty. The lush green spaces create a serene atmosphere conducive to both learning and personal well-being, providing an ideal setting for self-reflection and growth.
What truly sets Dominican University apart for me is the sense of community that defines the campus culture. In essence, DUC isn't just a stepping stone in my academic journey; it's a holistic and supportive community that resonates deeply with my values and ambitions.
FUN FACTS
Embracing my identity as a first-generation high school graduate, I've navigated a unique academic journey marked by passion and involvement. During my high school years, I actively participated in clubs such as GSA and SLAM! (a student-led organization), finding joy in advocating for inclusivity. In the pursuit of academic excellence, I challenged myself taking numerous AP and Honors courses. Adding a touch of spirited energy to my high school experience, I cheered for the SRHS Cheer team for two memorable years.
Rooted in the rich cultural tapestry of Guatemala, I proudly embrace my heritage by speaking English, Spanish and a bit of Mam - a dialect language. Through the pursuit of mastering a third language, I am not just expanding my linguistic repertoire; I am preserving a vital piece of my family's history, connecting me to the traditions and stories passed down through generations. At home, Spanish serves as the language of communication, while at school and friends, I seamlessly navigate the world in English.
Hiking is my ultimate chill time! It helps me clear my mind and get ready for the day ahead. I love exploring new trails and connecting with nature. Some of my favorite hikes include Henry A. Barbier Memorial Park, Phoenix Lake, Mount Tamalpais, Lake Lagunitas, Loma Alta Trail, and Laguna de Chicabal.
The longest hike I’ve done so far lasted 10 hours! Sometimes, I hike alone, enjoying the peace and quiet, and other times, I go with my dad for some great company and shared adventure. Every trail is a new experience, and I’m always looking for my next great hike!
