You can create a project about anything related to the water, land, or people of the Lake Ontario watershed. We want you to enjoy exploring topics that interest you, so feel free to get creative! Here are just a few things you could do...
Monitor the environment around your school and create a scientific poster sharing the results
Write a report about the history of the Haudenosaunee
Organize and hold an after-school cleanup at a local park and create a graph showing the types and amount of trash picked up
Develop a public service announcement to show why you should care for your watershed
Interview a professional who works in the Lake Ontario watershed
Create a slideshow of a potential solution for an environmental problem at school (for example, you observed and measured lots of runoff from the school roof so you design a rain catchment system)
Projects of all sorts will be accepted. Choose a medium that will help convey your message or help you gain experience with different software! Some potential formats include:
Written report
Powerpoint or slideshow
Poster
Artwork
Short video
Podcast
The submission form can accept projects that are in image or PDF formats. You can also copy and paste the link to a YouTube video or other webpage where your project lives in the submission form
Standard image formats include .JPG, .JPEG, and .PNG files.
Please convert Word/Google Documents (.doc or .docx files) to the PDF file format prior to submission.
If your project file size is larger than 10 MB, you will need to complete the submission form and then email your project as an attachment to LOOOP.
We are accepting projects on a "rolling" basis! You can submit projects at the beginning of the school year, end of the school year, summer, or anytime in between!
Your project will be listed on our website for one full calendar year. In addition to a link to view your project, the project description and keywords you include in the submission form will be visible to site visitors. Your first name and school will also be listed with your project.
You can expect your project to be uploaded to the website within 2 to 3 business days, as long as you have submitted the release form and completed the whole project submission form! If we do not have these forms, we will not be able to publish your project! Email us if you have completed the forms and still don't see your project online.
Yes. If you are submitting a group project, ALL group members will need to turn in release forms. Only one group member needs to turn in the project using the submission form, but all group members names should be listed on the submission form.
Yes, you are welcome to submit projects that have been completed at school or with a club. Remember, submission to the virtual showcase is completely voluntary and will NOT affect your grade.
Talk to the teacher who has assigned the school assignment before submitting a project to LOOOP. LOOOP virtual showcase projects are not graded, so be sure to focus on your school work first before participating in this extracurricular activity.
