Equestrian polo, also known as the "sport of kings," is one of the highest thrill games. Not just reserved for royalty, polo applies athleticism, strategy, skill, teamwork, and horsemanship. In arena polo, two teams of three players compete to make a goal with strategic turns, passes, and wall shots. In field polo, both four-player-teams try to control the game with run-offs, long shots, and calculated maneuvering. As an intercollegiate team, the Texas Polo Team primarily plays arena polo in the United States Polo Association (USPA).
The Texas Polo Team was established in 1928 and re-established in 1996. The Texas Polo Team plays both in the USPA Southwest Circuit and with the Margarita League Polo at ATX Polo.
Polo has a reputation for being a costly sport, but as an intercollegiate team, we are able to discount many of our members' expenses. We provide the horses and tack, and we offer helmets and mallets upon request.
