Settings as
Watch face

The settings for the app are not made directly on the watch, but via the GARMIN mobile app,
either via the CONNECT or CONNET IQ app.

Note: On some watch models, it is not possible to display Stress or Body Battery. In this case, a corresponding message appears on the display.
Heart rate, stress and body battery values are determined directly by the watch and not calculated via the app.

Disease pattern

Select whether the factor for Long COVID (0.6) or ME/CFS (0.5) should be used to calculate the maximum heart rate for pacing.

Max. Heart rate for Pacing

Calculating the heart rate for pacing depends on several factors:

First, the maximum heart rate must be calculated. Since no athletic performance test can be expected from sick people, a rule of thumb must suffice. This is calculated as follows depending on gender:

Depending on the disease, this maximum heart rate is now multiplied by a factor:

People with ME/CFS therefore appear to have a lower exercise threshold than patients with Long COVID.

Example for a 43 year old woman with LongCOVID:

max HRpacing = HRmax x 0.6
HRmax = 206 - (43 years x 0.88) = 168

max HRpacing = 168 x 0.6

max HRpacing = 101

The value must be an integer.

IMPORTANT: These formulas and values for the factors are “only” approximate and NOT exact and may vary from person to person, so if you find that the value for pacing does not quite suit you, change it.

Duration for exceeding the maximum heart rate (default: 2 min)

How long can the maximum heart rate be exceeded before the alarm is triggered?

The combination of max. heart rate and duration determines the individual stress limit in everyday life.

By changing the duration or the max. heart rate, this limit can be shifted.

Background color

Choice of black or white background. The alarm color is always red - with the exception of the Instinct series.

Select color style

Choice between multicolor (colorful) or monochrome (black/white)

Show dark mode

The display is dimmed and shown in monochrome (see "Color style" setting). Optionally during bedtime (controlled via the general settings of the clock).

Red font in dark mode

When the dark mode is active, the font of the display is shown in red instead of white, similar to the new "Red Shift Mode" from Garmin.

Display Resillience

The value for "Resillience" is automatically displayed when the watch switches to energy-saving mode. For technical reasons, this happens automatically after 20 seconds if the watch is not moved (i.e. kept still). After this, "Resilience" remains visible for one minute before the normal time is displayed again.

The time until when "Resillience" is displayed can be set in the app settings: "Never", "until 10:00" (in the morning) or "Always".

Note for newer watch models with touch display (e.g.: Forerunner 965, Vivoactive 5, Venu 3): On these models, "Load capacity" can be called up independently of the time by pressing and holding on the display. After a short time, the display switches from the time to "Load capacity" and shows this for 5 seconds.

Delete all data

This deletes all heart rate, stress and body battery data saved by the app. This means that the calculation of the load capacity starts again from the beginning - as well as the display for the resting heart rate of the last 7 days.

ATTENTION - This can NOT be undone.

Note on accuracy

For technical reasons, a watch face automatically switches to energy-saving mode after around 20 seconds if it is not moved.

Likewise, no sound or vibration can be triggered. Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Period.

In energy-saving mode, the current heart rate is therefore only determined once a minute - otherwise every second.

This can lead to a time delay when the maximum heart rate is exceeded and the alarm is triggered very late.

If you absolutely want to avoid this time delay, you must use the other version of the app as "Activity" - Download from GARMIN IQ Store
