The Lone Peak Band Program is directed by Ms. Jamie Kim. Ms. Kim is from Wahiawa, HI. A talented conductor and saxophonist, Ms. Kim has a large love/passion for music and a deep commitment to helping students grow through music education. She is in her 10th year of teaching. 5th year at Lone Peak High School. Ms. Kim has conducted /taught in many different settings: Lone Peak HS ('19-current), Judge Memorial Catholic HS ('18-'19), Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus ('16-'17), Herriman HS ('15-'16), Westlake HS ('13-'15), Cougar Marching Band TA & Graduate Assistant ('12, '18), and Wasatch Winds Community Band ('18). During her college career, Ms. Kim performed with the BYU Wind Symphony, BYU Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab Bands, Saxophone Quartets, Mariachi Band, BYU Cougar Marching Band, and Cougar Pep Bands. Classes Ms. Kim has taught in her teaching: AP Music Theory, Wind Ensembles, Jazz Bands, Marching Bands, Music Technology, Pit Orchestras, Liturgical Music, Elementary Band, Orchestra, Choir, Music Appreciation, Percussion, and Ukulele. She is a sought after clinician/adjudicator in Idaho and Utah for both jazz and wind ensembles. She studied saxophone under Ray Smith, Michael Tobian, Ben Nichols, Darren Bradford, and Jory Woodis. Ms. Kim studied conducting under Kory Kastseanes and Kirt Saville. She recently received the Caleb Chapman's Soundhouse Ray Smith Music Educator Award (2021), The National Band Association Citation of Excellence Award (23' & '24), and the National Band Association Certificate of Merit for Marching Excellence Award (22', 23', & '24), the Oustanding Jazz Educator Award (NBA '24). She earned her Bacherlor's Degree of Music in Music Education from Brigham Young University ('13). She also has completed 20+ credits of her Master's in Music Education at Brigham Young University ('15-'18). In addition, she is a MBA Social Impact Emphasis Recipient ('18) through the BYU Marriott School & Ballard Center. Ms. Kim additionally served as the Vice President of Band for the Utah Music Educator's Association ('22-'24). She is presently serving on the Utah Music Educator's Association jazz committee.
The Lone Peak Percussion Director is Mrs. Anna Shepherd. Anna Shepherd recently graduated from BYU with a degree in Music Education, emphasizing Percussion Performance. At BYU, she participated in many renowned ensembles, such as the Tangents Percussion Quartet, the Percussion Ensemble, the steel band, and served as principal percussionist in both the Philharmonic Orchestra and Wind Symphony. As a member of the Tangents Quartet, Mrs. Shepherd has traveled, performed, and filmed music videos in various locations. Notable highlights include filming a quartet video in Laie, Hawaii, and the Great Saltair in Utah.
Mrs. Shepherd is passionate about music education, particularly percussion education. She completed her student teaching at American Fork High School, and has worked with marching band programs such as American Fork HS, Lehi HS, Spanish Fork HS, and Coppell HS (in Coppell, TX). After graduation, she worked as a substitute teacher, private percussion lesson teacher, and adjudicated for solo & ensemble events and the Utah Day of Percussion.
Mrs. Shepherd is excited and grateful for the opportunity to be the new Percussion Director at Lone Peak High School and to work alongside Ms. Jamie Kim. She looks forward to continuing the great legacy of the Lone Peak percussion program and helping to elevate and grow the program further.
Mrs. Shepherd loves dogs, reading, and The Office, and currently resides in Provo with her husband, Blake, who is also a drummer.
