What is Color Guard?
Color guard brings together dance, performance, and equipment like flags, rifles, and sabres to create the visual side of a show. In the fall, we perform alongside the marching band, bringing the music to life through movement, choreography, and equipment. During the winter, color guard moves indoors and becomes its own competitive activity, where performers get to take the spotlight and tell a story through music and movement.
Explore Our Programs
Parade Guard is the perfect place to jump into color guard! Open to students in grades 5–12, this program requires no audition and welcomes all experience levels. Throughout the summer, students learn the basics of dance, flag, and performance while getting the chance to perform in local parades, football games, and community events.
Students interested in spinning rifle or sabre will complete a basic audition for weapon line placement. Whether you’re brand new to guard or already have some experience, Parade Guard is a great way to build your skills, make friends, and perform with the team.
Fall Guard is where color guard meets the excitement of marching band! Open to students in grades 9–12, members spend the season performing at football games, parades, competitions, and other events alongside the marching band.
Auditions are held to help us find the best performance role for each student, but everyone who auditions will have a place in the show. Throughout the season, members build their skills in dance, flag, rifle, and sabre while learning choreography and bringing the marching band’s production to life on the field.
Junior Cadet Guard is where our youngest performers get their start! Open to students in grades 3–7, this program introduces the basics of dance, movement, flag, and performance in a fun environment where students can learn at their own pace and build confidence along the way.
Junior Cadet Guard also gets plenty of chances to perform! In the fall, students are invited to join our older guard programs for special performances, including their own routine at Marching Band Family Night. During the winter, they take their show to the floor and perform alongside other junior cadet level teams from across the state. It’s a great first step into the world of color guard and a chance to experience what being part of the team is all about.
JV Winter Guard is open to students in grades 8–12 and is a great place to continue growing as a performer while experiencing the excitement of winter guard competition. No audition is required to join!
Throughout the season, JV members build stronger skills in dance, flag, rifle, and sabre while learning a complete competitive production. The team performs at competitions throughout the winter and focuses on building confidence, strong fundamentals, and performance experience. Students who audition for Varsity and are not contracted are also invited to join JV and continue developing their skills for future seasons.
Varsity Winter Guard is our highest-level competitive ensemble and is open by audition to students in grades 9–12. Members are selected based on skill, performance ability, work ethic, and readiness for the demands of a more advanced competitive season.
Varsity performers take their training to the next level through more challenging choreography, advanced equipment skills, and a strong focus on performance quality. Throughout the winter, the team competes across the state while representing our program at its highest competitive level.
