“Access to spinal cord injury (SCI) services is critical for individuals with SCI and their families. However, access to these services can be complicated due to various factors, such as lack of available resources, geographic location, financial constraints, and a lack of knowledge about the services available. This can lead to a life that is unnecessarily complicated, adding more challenges to an already difficult situation.”
International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) Prevention Committee
The London SCI network is working to improve outcomes and experiences for individuals with spinal cord injury across London.
In 2019, NHS England and Improvement identified a need to transform services to people with spinal cord injury. Each region will set up its own network to coordinate care services and education to improve service delivery. This is the website for the London region of the National SCI network.
The staff currently involved in the London Spinal Cord Injury network project include:
Network manager:
Natalia Neira
natalia.neira@nhs.net
Education Lead:
Emma Cook
Emma.Cook4@nhs.net
Line manager:
Michelle Conlon
The team are agile and linked to the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre for administrative purposes.
The London SCI transformation project roles will be restructured in 2023 as the London SCI network develops, to work alongside our stakeholders across London and focus on specific aspects of the project.
Update on new roles coming soon...

X 4 SCI Link workers for ADULTS hosted by each of the four Major Trauma Centres (MTC)
X 2 SCI Link workers for Children and Young People (CYP), one covering North and the other South London
Although the new posts are hosted by the four MTC’s, they are funded by the London SCI Transformation Project and are for ALL patients with SCI.
The aim is to improve outcomes and experiences for individuals with spinal cord injury, outside of a specialist spinal cord injury centre (SCIC). They will offer clinical support, leadership and education to individuals with spinal cord injury and to the staff caring for them, in any inpatient location across the network.
X 2 SCI Clinical System Leads—x 1 for North and x 1 for South London
These posts are to provide system wide support, working with Integrated Care Trusts (ICS) and Integrated Care Boards (ICB) to improve care in community settings and prevent readmission to hospital with particular focus on bladder, bowel and skin care.
