Mathematics Focus Areas in Kindergarten
Please find below some key terms you will come across in your child’s education:
· Representing whole numbers - how whole numbers show quantity and reading and representing numerals to at least 20.
· Combining and separating quantities – adding and subtracting number pairs which make 10.
· Forming groups - forming groups through sharing and counting objects, and making and continuing patterns which repeat.
· Geometric measure - positions and directions, and measuring length.
· Two-dimensional spatial structure - recognising, representing and describing common two-dimensional shapes, and describing and comparing area.
· Three-dimensional spatial structure - recognising, representing and describing common three-dimensional shapes, and describing and comparing volume.
· Non-spatial measures - describing and comparing the masses of objects, and sequencing events and reading the hour time on clocks.
· Data - collecting data and making meaning from a data display.
