THE CUBE is a photo series realized as a participant of the 2021 edition of GUTERSTOFF Festival in Cologne. All participants were randomly distributed into 5 interdisciplinary groups and had to realize a work of art together during the months prior to the festival and present their artworks at the festival itself. As this edition happened in the turbulent post-COVID year and no one could plan ahead if any sort of art event would be able to happen "for real", we, the GROUP 5, decided to produce an interdisciplinary digital galery named FIVE SIDED featuring video and animation, photography, music, performance and dance and accessible through a USB-stick.
FIVE SIDED was designed to translate an immersive installative experience onto a digital medium. In the live version, the audience would have entered a room only ocupied by a large cube showing its faces illuminated through video/photo projections, one of which presenting a door. Entering the cube, the audience would have discovered another curated space with another, smaller cube, four illuminated faces and again, a door. This would have gone on for 3 to 4 "levels", creating the illusion of a loop until reaching the smallest of cubes, on which we would have projected an ultimate animation recreating the enless loop.
Sadly not able to realize this for an actual exhibition, we decided to recreate the "levels" of our loop on an USB-Stick.
The photo series THE CUBE has is my participation to this collective gallery. Part documentation, part artistic photography, it illustrates in 6 chapters the persistence of creative sensitivity throughout a period of international health crisis and occasional randomness of the collective creative process.
