Logan Valley Star Party 2023 Summary - Photos
Weather and sky conditions and sad news:
June 13th (Tuesday) through June 18th (Sunday)
About 35 serious astronomers showed up with very sophisticated instruments.
Most evenings were clear and cool. No records were kept on temperatures. One evening had a beautiful sunset
This area of eastern Oregon has recently been designated as a Dark Sky Preserve
Myself (John Benham from Spokane) and Charles Barnard from West Seattle were the founders and organizers of this star party. Mainly due to Chuck (Charles) who had me continue driving on CR 16 until we found Logan Valley. Our 2023 star party found him not feeling well with issues in his lower back. Leaving early on Saturday he immediately went to the hospital when arriving back in Seattle. He had serious medical issues and unfortunately Charles Barnard passed away on October 30, 2023. He was a good friend to me and us at Logan Valley Star Party. He was also instrumental in helping and organizing past Table Mountain Star Parties. He will be missed. At this year's 2024 LVSP, we will have a memorial for him one day when the weather is appropriate. Please come and share your memories of Chuck with us.
Below are general photos of the quality of equipment one can see at LVSP and some of the attendees.
