Loch bagging is undertaken entirely at your own risk. Lochbagging.org and its author accepts no responsibility or liability, nor gives any warranty, as to the accuracy of any of the information on the site. It is your own responsibility to check information with other sources.
Caution should be exercised around deep water. For example, consult the map to avoid arriving at the lochside where the bank is particularly steep. Exposing yourself or others to excessive risk for the sake of ticking off a loch is not worth it.
The excellent website walkhighlands.co.uk has provided a set of useful guidelines for safety on scottish mountains. Much of it would also be useful for loch bagging (for mountain substitute loch) particularly for those lochs that are in exposed locations and/or lie at a high altitude. The information can be viewed here https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/safety/
Thanks to the Land Reform Act (2003) we have the right to roam in Scotland "over land and inland water", but this right comes with responsibilities: please respect the Scottish Outdoor Access Code when visiting these lochs. Please also note, I have not (as yet) personally visited all the lochs on these lists. It may be that (the 2003 act notwithstanding) access to some of these lochs is not permitted or is restricted on the grounds of public safety.
If anyone is aware of safety or access issues please email me on lochbagging at gmail.com (replace the " at " with @) or leave a comment on the lochbagging facebook page.
