Leaders from various puchaser and provider organizations gathered for Sen. Kouchi's kick-off meeting with a strong message that it will take everyone working together in the effort to increase local food puchasing by hospitals, schools, prisons, and other institutions.
Implementers within the organizations of the Kahua Team gathered for their kick-off, hosted by Sen. Kouchi reinforcing the opportunity to consider a new way of doing things post-pandemic. Procurement officers and key staff from institutions joined representatives from various providers (food hubs, distributors, farm unions) to hear from speakers and then identify challenges, opportunties, and myths in local food procurement in breakout groups.
Procurement Team members considered the summary of results from the last meeting and deliberated on whether continuing the group with current or modified outcomes made sense in Provider and Puchaser breakout groups.
The consensus was to continue the work but establish submcommittees. A survey will be created so members can select their interest area, identify other groups that may be doing similar work to partner with, and share ideas on additional voices that could be involved in subcommittee work.
