One exciting project we’ve been considering for some time is keeping a couple of beehives on site to help encourage pollinators and support the pollination of our fruit trees and soft fruits. We know how vital bees are to a healthy orchard and ecosystem, and introducing hives would be a wonderful step forward. However, it’s a big commitment — requiring training, special insurance, and ongoing care. For now, it’s very much a “watch this space” situation. Once we decide to move ahead, it will likely take about a year before we’re fully ready to get started. We’re hopeful that Fred, and possibly Nick, will take the lead on this exciting venture, probably sometime next year, and we’ll be looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help care for the bees as well.
