The League of Nations was historically plagued by inaction and indifference. In the first attempt at a truly global decision-making apparatus, with the benefit of hindsight, modern observers see many shortcomings with their conclusions and resolutions. The goal of this committee will be to reexamine some of the League’s worst missteps in response to crises. Historically, the League of Nations aimed to assert national sovereignty and self-determination, de-escalate and demilitarize conflict zones, and promote diplomatic relations.
The two topics/ events will be The Mukden Incident of 1931, and the Italian Invasion of Abyssinia in 1935.
The goal for each topic will be to examine and understand the situation at “present,” and develop a different solution than the League historically did.
A. Mukden Incident
B. Italian Invasion of Abyssinia
