Summary of Avatar: The Last Airbender
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar — master of all four elements — could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. 100 years later Avatar Aang emerged and with the help of his friends(Team Avatar) they defeated the Fire Nation and helped usher in a period of peace for all four nations.
Summary of Legend of Korra
Republic City was also founded shortly after the war ended and it became a central hub in the human world. After Avatar Aang’s passing, Korra from the Southern Water Tribe became the next Avatar and it was her duty to maintain the peace that Aang helped establish. One of the first groups that she defeated when she arrived in Republic City were the Equalists, radical extremists who wished to eradicate bending. After that conflict was resolved, Avatar Korra tried to improve her connection to the spirit world and received assistance from her Uncle, Chief Unalaq of the Northern Water Tribe. Unalaq tricked Korra into opening the portals to the Spirit World which caused Harmonic Convergence, an event that can only happen every 10,000 years. The spirits Vatuu and Rava must battle to maintain peace. Korra’s actions directly allowed Vatuu to escape from his prison in the Spirit World and he nearly killed Korra and came close to ending the Avatar cycle forever. Avatar Korra was luckily able to defeat Unalaq and Vatuu and she decided to keep the Spirit World portals open.
