The Pacific Islands Forum was established in 1971 as an organization wherein government leaders discuss current events and problems shared by its eighteen member states. The goals of the forum are to ensure a community of states working together supporting unity, safety, and prosperity for all people of the Pacific. These goals are pursued through cooperation between governments within and outside the forum, working with international agencies to ensure the interests of member states.
This year’s annual meeting will focus on the important issues of finding solutions to the problem of climate change and helping members to combat the effects such as intensifying wildfires and rising sea levels. In addition, the issues that arise from gentrification which affect all of our members in some form and must be addressed to preserve the homes and histories for our Forum’s citizens.
