“One Vision, One Identity, One Community.”
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, is an intergovernmental body that has been a key player in furthering the development of Southeast Asia with the overall purpose of accelerating economic growth, social progress, and cultural development. This is accomplished with continuous support from the community itself with a focus on equality and cooperation between nations to maintain peace and stability throughout the region.
Within our conference, ASEAN will be made up of all ten permanent members of ASEAN, six additional members that take part in the East Asian Summit, as well as two observer states. While this does change the overall function of the committee, this will help to include more diversity and allow for more critical debate. This also allows us to tackle a more complicated topic with several more players than would typically be present in ASEAN. Despite these changes, we will function as close to the ASEAN Way as feasible within a committee of this size.
By the end of our session, we hope to pass at least two robust resolutions that take into account the multifaceted needs of each country, while promoting security and prosperity in the region.
