Street Photography

Street photography represents candid scenes on the streets or in any public place that tell a story. The below quote from the 1952 World Book Encyclopedia says it best:

"Photography is communication. As in written and spoken language, there are certain rules and standards in photography. What we say with our camera is important. But it is also important that we say it well. In photography as in writing, we may express the true or false, the good or the bad."

“Since I’m inarticulate, I express myself with images,”. Helen Levitt

"New York has become ridiculously expensive, but the New York I was photographing in was very inexpensive."   Richard Sandler

"You have to evolve on your own.” Berenice Abbott

Manhattan 1945 YouTube video.

Manhattan has been described as the cultural, financial, media, and entertainment hub of the world. The word "Manhattan" originates from a Munsee Lenape native American language word that means "place for gathering wood to make bows". In the old days Manhattan had a lot of hickory wood. My guess is that today Manhattan is not good place to find wood to make bows.
