Q: Are tryouts for incoming 9th graders too?
A: Yes they are able to attending tryout clincis and final evaluations!
Q: If I've tried out in the past and did not make a team. Is it worth trying out again?
A: Absolutely! If you're passionate about cheering for Lake Nona, don't hesitate to step up and give it your all. Remember, you'll never know unless you try.
Q: If we had a physical done for last year's tryout do we need to get another one?
A: Physicals are valid for one calendar year. If you haven't had a new physical since last year's tryouts, chances are you'll need a fresh one. It's crucial to keep track of your current physical expiration date and arrange for a new one in advance, ensuring you upload it to athletic clearance before it expires. Athletes with expired physicals won't be permitted to take part in practices, games, or competitions. For detailed instructions on how to obtain clearance for tryouts, please refer to the "Athletic Clearance" tab.
Q: Can freshmen make Varsity?
A: Yes, but it's important to note that High School cheerleading is different than all-star cheerleading. Mastering the expected UCA sideline presence at our Varsity level typically requires an athlete to dedicate a year to learning. However, freshmen have the opportunity to make Varsity if they excel in all facets of high school cheer, including stunting, tumbling, jumps, and sideline presence.
Q: What if I don’t know what position for stunting?
A: No worries at all! The coaches are here to assist in finding the best positions for both you and the team. They'll guide you through the essential grips and ensure you have opportunities to learn new skills throughout your journey with LN Cheer.
Q: What if I have experience in multiple stunt positions?
A: This is fantastic! We highly value versatile athletes. It's crucial for athletes to be adaptable and capable of filling any position required.
Q: Will we be picking our own stunt groups or do the coaches put together random groups?
A: Both! We recognize that some girls have stunted together previously and wish to demonstrate their progress to the coaches. Nonetheless, during tryouts, we'll be rotating individuals to assess each athlete's versatility effectively.
Q: Do I need previous experience to tryout?
A: We highly recommend experience with cheer motions and jumps, including technique and sharpness. Additionally, we highly encourage all interested athletes to take tumbling and stunting classes/clinics at local cheerleading gyms. We are a highly competitive program, however our coaches prioritize positive attitudes, dedication, and coachability above all else.
Q: Is it possible to make a team without the tumbling? What are the tumbling requirements?
A: We operate as a competitive program with specific tumbling expectations, but our priority lies in nurturing well-rounded athletes. While tumbling skills are important, they aren't the sole criteria for team selection. Athletes who excel in areas such as sideline presence, leadership, stunting/jumping, and sharp motions can earn a spot on the team even without meeting the suggested tumbling standards. However, simply having elite tumbling does not ensure automatic placement on the Sideline Varsity or Competition teams. As mentioned earlier, our coaches prioritize well-rounded athletes. If you possess elite tumbling skills but have yet to reach the Varsity level in stunting, motions, and sideline presence, coaches may opt to place you on JV until you attain Varsity-level proficiency across all areas.
Q: What will we be doing at tryouts? What is the required material?
A: The material will be released prior to tryouts on our "Tryout Material 26-27" tab. Please make sure that ALL material is learning PRIOR to tryout clinics. We will only be reviewing material.
Q: How and when are teams announced?
A: The team announcements will be made via Instagram @lnhs.cheer. Every athlete will be assigned a tryout number, and only the numbers of those who have made each team will be posted. It's important to note that prior to tryouts, each athlete and parent has signed an agreement stating that decisions made by coaches and judges during tryouts will be final.
Q: Are there costs associated with LN Cheer?
A: Yes. All athletes will have to purchase the mandatory season practice wear from Varsity Spirit and all new athletes will be required to purchase the mandatory season items from Varsity Spirit and Rebel, such as poms, bows, rain jackets, etc. Please know parents are responsible for meeting all payment deadlines.
Our athletes will pay for a mandatory 3 day cheer camp that we will be attending over the summer. More details to come.
All uniforms are issued by the program and returned at the end of the season. There is a $100 rental fee associated with uniforms that will be reimbursed if uniforms are returned clean with no stains, rips, alterations, etc.
Any athletes who are selected for our competition team will also have competition fees when that season starts. All fees are broken down in the tryout packet which will be emailed to anyone who has filled out the tryout interest form and signed the 26-27 cheer season contract.
Q: How are athletes assessed?
A: All prospective athletes are assessed and scored individually on a standard scoring system similar to that of our cheerleading competitions. Athletes will be scored in the following areas: Crowd Leading, Motion Technique, Tumbling (standing/running), and Jumps. There is a total score potential of 100 points. Please refer to the link attached here
