Our Mission
The Large-Scale Machine Learning Systems Lab. studies critical problems in Machine Learning, Data Science, and High-Performance Computing. We currently pursue the following three research directions: 1) Large-scale Deep Learning algorithms that fully utilize the given H/W resources; 2) Federated Learning on heterogeneous systems; 3) Applied Machine Learning for scientific applications.

[July 2024] Sunwoo Lee gave a talk at Sungkyunkwan University about model aggregation methods in modern distributed machine learning on 7/3.
[June 2024] Sunwoo Lee is attending KCC in Jeju, South Korea (6/25~6/28).
[May 2024] A paper was accepted in KDD 2024 (BK21 IF:4), S. Lee, Layer-Wise Adaptive Gradient Norm Penalizing Method for Efficient and Accurate Deep Learning, 2024.
[April 2024] A paper was accepted in IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (IF: 7.9, Q1), S. Lee et al., EmbracingFL: Enabling Weak Client Participation via Partial Model Training, 2024.
[March 2024] Junhyuk and Jihyun Joined LMLS-lab as graduate student!
[December 2023] Sunwoo Lee is attending KSC in Busan, South Korea (12/20 ~ 12/22).
[December 2023] Three new undergrad interns will join our lab from December 3rd week.
[September 2023] Our lab is selected to receive funding from National Research Foundation of Korea for 2023 (한국연구재단 생애첫연구 과제 선정)
[July 2023] A paper was accepted in Neurocomputing (IF: 6.0, Q2), S. Lee et al., Partial Model Averaging in Federated Learning: Performance Guarantees and Benefits, 2023.
[June 2023] Three new undergrad interns will join our lab from June 3rd week.
[March 2023] Our lab will be affiliated with Artificial Intelligence Convergence Research Center (인공지능융합연구센터) in late March.
[February 2023] A paper was accepted in ICASSP 2023 (Top-tier conference), T. Zhang, et al., FedAudio: A Federated Learning Benchmark for Audio Tasks, 2023.
[February 2023] Sunwoo Lee is attending AAAI in Washington D.C. (2/8 ~ 2/13).
