MSPA JOURNALISM PORTFOLIO
My name is LJ Conley, and I'm a senior at Tupelo High School in Tupelo, Mississippi. I am the Co-Executive Producer of WTHS Media, a Broadcast Journalism publication. My role in class is to lead, assist my advisor, oversee projects, and report and anchor my own stories. I find great joy in making stories because for me, it's more than just a project with a deadline. It's about spreading awareness of people doing good in my community and the issues individuals may face. Some stories I've created include the government shutdown, new leadership at my school, our Black History Month Program, sports coverage, and many more. When I chose to try out for WTHS my sophomore year, I had no prior interest in broadcast journalism. WTHS has brought me out of my shell and brought me so much joy that I'm so thankful for it. Aside from WTHS, I am a member of the National Honor Society, the president of Quill and Scroll, the orchestrator of Quill and Scroll's Thanksgiving and Christmas season food drives, the senior class representative of Tupelo High School's Red Cross Club, a Tupelo Boy, an honor student, and so much more. Being an asset to my community and helping others are my top priorities, which are reflected in my leadership skills at WTHS.

Last year, I was named a 2025 SIPA star. The Southern Interscholastic Press Association is a nonprofit organization supporting student journalists, advisers, and administrators across the Southeast, based in Columbia, SC. SIPA nominates Stars for their outstanding southern journalistic work in the classroom. Alongside being a SIPA star, I will also be on their panel and speak to many other SIPA attendees about the importance of southern journalistic work.
