Arabic Foreign Language Textbook series

I am honored to be a part of the 'Arabiyyat al-Naas team (with Drs. Munther Younes Hanada Al-Masri, Jonathan Featherstone, and Makda Weatherspoon) to create Arabic world language textbooks which integrate spoken dialects and Modern Standard Arabic together.

The Egyptian version of book 1 tells the story of Maya as she navigates her study abroad experience in Cairo. Students receive a rigorous and contextualized grounding in both Modern Standard Arabic as well Egyptian Colloquial Arabic as they are used by native speakers.

Book 2 is a theme-based textbook delivered in the form of a serialized radio drama. Through the lens of journalism and personal interactions modelled by the main characters of this radio drama, learners are equipped to continue developing their spoken and written Arabic skills in the context of authentic dialogues and reading texts. As such, this book reflects cross-dialectal communication as used by native speakers across the Arab world.

language partner training series

I worked with NaTakallam to produce a series of training videos for language partner teachers. The videos target best practices in online language teaching as informed by SLA research and theory.
