I implemented and trialled a number of different tools and ideas for distance learning.
Here are a few thoughts, ideas, videos and more that may be of interest to teachers.
This is the GIF file I made introducing students to notetaking.
A couple of other ideas to add - how about getting students to make a video of them explaining the problem.
Another idea - before starting a test, students have to show you via video call that the room is empty (pan computer around).
Be aware the questions have to be ones which students can't google the answer ...
If students have a stylus they can write/draw in Word documents (better quality images than taking a photograph of their work)
To Make GIF's I use either Google Slides or Powerpoint, then save each slide as a jpg. Lastly I upload to www.gifmaker.me to make the gif.
I do a call at the start of each class. With some (particularly juniors) i start with a Do Now (using word and drawing tools like a whiteboard). I can invite students to join while the rest of the class is doing the Do Now.
Make this section a maximum of 20 minutes.
Then get students working on a task - exercises, worksheet, watching a video, etc. I stay available on chat for students to ask for help, and will either chat or make a video call to the individual or group if they need help.
If I make a video call to individual students, I ask that they turn off their video and just have audio (to protect myself as some students may be working in their bedroom, in pj's etc).
Then at the end of the class time I get students to submit their work. It may be a photo of their work, a task they completed, etc.
Schedule (or on the fly) a video call and chat to your class. You can see up to 4 students in a grid, share either your screen or theirs, use a whiteboard, etc.
Use: Video call with the class at the start of each period, or video call individual or small groups of students.
