Educator’s Guide To A Successful Retirement (Prudent) as of October 2020
CTA wants you to have a long and happy retirement. CalSTRS and CalPERS generally covers only about half of your income at retirement, so it is essential that members consider a supplementary retirement savings plan as early as possible to make up the difference. There are a lot of plans offered to educators, but many have high fees or surrender charges.
In this session, we help you get started toward a financially secure retirement, review how to avoid suboptimal plans, and discuss the basics of saving for retirement using easy-to-understand terms. We will highlight The CTA 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan which was designed by CTA for educators and the only plan endorsed by CTA. The CTA RSP has high-quality investments at a low cost and a simple “quick enrollment” process that makes saving for retirement easy.

From MMTUC:
Are you considering an unpaid leave of absence due to maternity, illness or other personal reasons? If so, keep in mind the importance of maintaining your CTA membership while you are on leave. (If you have signed up for the CTA-endorsed disability insurance from The Standard, it is a valuable resource for those needing to take leave!)
Why do you need to maintain your dues while on a Leave of Absence?
Maintaining your CTA membership while you are on an unpaid leave ensures your eligibility to participate in the following member benefit programs:
CTA Group Legal Services Program: CTA membership must be in effect when the incident occurs and maintained throughout the entire time assistance is being provided.
CTA Voluntary Life and Disability Insurance Plans: You may jeopardize your voluntary life and disability coverage underwritten by The Standard if membership ceases.
CTA Auto and Home Insurance: CTA members participating in the Auto and/or Home Plans provided by California Casualty’s Auto and Home Insurance can continue their coverage at CTA exclusive rates and without an increase in premiums.
CTA Death & Dismemberment Plan: Maintain CTA membership to remain eligible for the CTA Death & Dismemberment Plan.
How are dues deducted?
CTA dues are automatically deducted from your paycheck; however, while you are on an unpaid leave, this deduction will end. Members can pay prorated cash dues for the remainder of the school year to maintain membership at a reduced fee category 3A level. Prior to taking unpaid leave, please contact CTA to help determine what your dues will be.
