ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Liverpool Finnish School (Liverpoolin Suomi-koulu) is a small non-profit voluntary organisation in Liverpool, UK. We work closely with the Liverpool International Nordic Community (LiNC) to offer Finnish language classes and Nordic cultural events.
Founded in 2008, the School aims to:
Provide Finnish language classes for people of all ages
Share Finnish culture and traditions
Offer social and community activities for Finnish and non-Finnish people alike
The school is volunteer-run and non-religious, welcoming everyone regardless of background, belief, or level of Finnish. More than just a place for lessons, it is a friendly and inclusive community where people can learn, experience Finnish culture, and enjoy time together.
WHAT WE DO
Lessons: We currently have one class for adults (mixed levels) and one for children (all ages and levels)
Coffee and food: During school days, we serve coffee/tea and a light snack
Social and cultural activities: We often gather around the table and chat. We also organise activity days; past sessions have included knitting, baking, and book club.
Finnish celebrations: We organise Christmas/Finnish Independence Day parties (December) and Midsummer get-togethers (June)
Special events: In previous years, we’ve enjoyed ice skating, skiing/sledging, and visits to Chester Zoo. In 2025–2026, we plan visits to the floating sauna in Liverpool and an ice hockey game!
Other: Our school has a small library of Finnish books
Whether you’re learning Finnish, interested in the culture, or simply looking to meet new people, there’s something for everyone at our school!
GET INVOLVED
We always welcome more volunteers to help with teaching, preparing and serving food, or whatever else you think you could offer! If you are interested, please email us or talk to anyone during the school day.
