Founded by Emmy-winning producer Kevin Wall, in partnership with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Live Earth was built upon the belief that entertainment has the power to transcend social and cultural barriers to move the world community to action. Live Earth seeks to leverage the power of entertainment through integrated events, media, and the live experience to ignite a global movement aimed at solving the most critical environmental issues of our time.[1]

The 1st series of benefit concerts were held on 7 July 2007. The concerts brought together more than 150 musical acts in eleven locations around the world and were broadcast to a mass global audience through television, radio, and live internet streams.[2]

Humans are taking colossal risks with the future of civilization and everything that lives on Earth, a new Earth Commission study published today in the journal Nature shows. Developed by more than 40 researchers from across the globe, the scientists deliver the first quantification of safe and just Earth system boundaries on a global and local level for several biophysical processes and systems that regulate the state of the Earth system.

Just boundaries minimize human exposure to significant harm. The Commission defines significant harm as: widespread severe existential or irreversible negative impacts on countries, communities and individuals from Earth system change, such as loss of lives, livelihoods or incomes, displacement, loss of food, water or nutritional security, chronic disease, injury or malnutrition.

And this is a specific problem, global warming, that affects us all, not just one group of people in one country, not just one crisis, but an ongoing crisis that affects us all in the future. And, so, they will be asking people to make changes in their lives, individual change, and also trying to inspire some sort of political action.

We are grateful to be able to live on, learn from, and love this land along the Blue Ridge in the James River watershed that is the homeland of the Monacan People. We honor the Monacan people of the past and those that live here today for tending this land since time immemorial. We at LES know the first step is acknowledgement, but that means little if not followed by action. LES is on a journey of learning about the impacts of colonization, and how we as an organization play a part in its continual violence to human culture and dignity. As an organization, LES is committed to learning how to restore the landscape to the vitality that supports life, and supporting our neighbors the Monacan people.

Shows will be televised globally the day of the event on seven NBC networks, including Bravo, MSNBC, CNBC, Sundance, UniHD, Telemundo and Mun2. They also will be shown on NBC during primetime, and streamed live from each venue on MSN. Performances will be available worldwide on XM and Sirius satellite radio and via Sprint mobile downloads. On broadcast day, Mika will be stationed in London at the world feed master control.

No! After the dinosaurs died out, nearly 65 million years passed before people appeared on Earth. However, small mammals (including shrew-sized primates) were alive at the time of the dinosaurs. Some scientists who study dinosaurs (vertebrate paleontologists) now think that birds are direct descendants of one line of carnivorous dinosaurs, and some consider that they in fact represent modern living dinosaurs. This theory remains under discussion and shows that there is still much we don't know about dinosaurs.

Dinosaur communities were separated by both time and geography. The 'Age of Dinosaurs' (the Mesozoic Era) included three consecutive geologic time periods (the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous Periods). Different dinosaur species lived during each of these three periods. For example, the Jurassic dinosaur Stegosaurus had already been extinct for approximately 80 million years before the...

Dinosaurs lived on all of the continents. At the beginning of the age of dinosaurs (during the Triassic Period, about 230 million years ago), the continents were arranged together as a single supercontinent called Pangea. During the 165 million years of dinosaur existence this supercontinent slowly broke apart. Its pieces then spread across the globe into a nearly modern arrangement by a process...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a different part of the world? What would the weather be like? What kinds of animals would you see? Which plants live there? By investigating these questions, you are learning about biomes.

As early as 1834, just three and a half decades after Malthus' essay was published, the English Poor Laws were scrapped and replaced with stricter ones. This was partly over Malthusian concerns that this social class (who he called "peasants") were reproducing too much, and had the result of forcing orphaned children into bleak, unsanitary workhouses like the one depicted in Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist.

The Zodiac display is centred on the Earth and oriented with the tilt of the earth. This display shows in which sign of the zodiac the Sun lies at any time. The sign of the Sun at a persons birth is called that person's Star Sign.

The Zodiac is locked to the tilt of the earth in this way: Because the earth is tilted the Sun lies in the northern hemisphere for six months and then in the southern hemisphere for six months. When the Sun crosses from the northern to the southern hemisphere this is called the Vernal Equinox and this event defines the direction between Aries and Pisces and hence the orientation of the whole Zodiac for the following year.

Over generations, all of the species that are currently alive today have evolved unique traits that make them distinct from other species. These differences are what scientists use to tell one species from another. Organisms that have evolved to be so different from one another that they can no longer reproduce with each other are considered different species. All organisms that can reproduce with each other fall into one species.

The EARTH EX Team is developing a new way to experience EARTH EX using a live multi-sector exercise with audience involvement. Watch subject matter experts from different sectors discuss their concerns and approaches to dealing with a large-scale scenario that impacts them all and how each has cross-sector concerns or an ability to help another sector solve their issues. e24fc04721
