Ever wondered how your Little Spools product ended up in your hands? Where did it come from? How was it made? How did it transform into a gorgeous handmade treasure made just for you from a simple piece of fabric and some thread? This is our production process - 100% local and personally run by us. No factories, big industrial machines or hundreds of workers toiling away. Just a happy team working away on our passion in our tiny spare room!
Below, we've condensed our most important process - introducing a new product into our collection - into a few steps, so you can see the big picture easily!
STEP ONE
We do our research! We explore countless of patterns and projects online to gain inspiration for what we want to make next. We find a few basic patterns that are easy to modify if needed, or sketch a few original ideas, and then use that to plan our next step.
STEP TWO
We go shopping at a craft store to pick up fabrics, sewing supplies and notions, and any other specific items that we need to create our products. We're always referring back to our sewing patterns to make sure we get the right material and accessories.
STEP THREE
We make a "test product" from the pattern, which is kind of like our first draft. After that, we review it and decide if we want to make any changes to the design. We go back and modify the pattern and then sew "test product #2". If we're happy, this is our go-to! If not, we keep on reworking and perfecting the product until we're satisfied.
STEP FOUR
We start sewing and prepping lots of the product to stock up for a stall. We announce its availability on our social media and officially update our website. Then, after our next few stalls, we check its popularity and if there are any trends in customers' preferences (maybe they'd like something changed?). If so, we go back and change its design to better suit the general trend of our customers!
