October 2021
As with everyone, when Covid-19 hit, all gatherings for the girl scouts and fundraising for the Little House were put on pause. While the house was unable to be utilized, we still had many bills to continue paying and no income coming in to help support us. With funds at an all time low and fewer donations coming in then previous years, the trustees reached into their own pockets and asked citizens in the town to help support our tricky tray.
This tricky tray allowed us to once again mingle with the public, continue spreading our message, and ultimately gave everyone a night out after being in lockdown for so long.
Thank you to everyone who supported and continues to support the Little House Association so we can carry on with the financial portion of the house to continue providing girl scout troops in South River, Milltown, and East Brunswick with a free and safe meeting place.

After the addition of the brand new firepit (to bring it up to code) girl scouts utilized it for a camp out in the back yard. The camping and other activities the girls participated in that night help them on their way to earning a new badge.

One our the South River Senior Girl Scouts decided to complete her Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest award a girl scout can achieve and requires 5 key elements:
Address a root cause of an issue that you feel passionate about that has
a national/global link.
Through your actions you must demonstrate leadership
while also creating sustainable
and measurable impact.
The gold award requires a minimum of 80 hours worth of work with strict guidelines on how the hours must be spent in the project.
Our senior girl scout chose to redo our lower level by putting in new floors, demoing and rebuilding a brand new kitchen, a refresh in the paint, in addition to holding workshops for other girls scouts to learn about home improvement and interior design.

The South River Little House is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Citizens from the communities of South River, Milltown, and East Brunswick came to learn about the history of the Little House Association of South River. During the event, participants were able to watch a video of the Little House Association history, watch a fashion show of Girl Scout uniforms through time, partake in crafts, and learn more about the requirements a Girl Scout must complete in order to earn her Gold Award.
In addition, the Little House held a food collection on non-perishable items in order to support the local South River Food Bank.
All participants who celebrated with us were entered in a raffle to win one of three door prize baskets.

A Girl Scout troop works on their fire safety. Girls learned different types of fire wood formation, how to safely start and tend to a fire. With these skills, the girls (with the supervision of an adult leader) will be able to participate in a scout sing along night, work on cooking food for camp, and camp fire activities.
