COMMUNITY GARDEN
Was built in a day! Heard that one before? Forty volunteer women, under the direction of Splash Projects, created this garden at the Littleham Leisure Centre on April 1st 2023 for everyone to enjoy and use. …. And….. give or take a bit of prep, involving concreting in the main posts beforehand and clearing up afterwards, it all came together in 8 hours of hard graft on a Saturday of sunny spells and a few showers. The project was the idea of Sam Burnett, Baptist minister of The Wave Church who sees the social benefits of the garden in bringing people together and providing the means for them to grow vegetables , fruit and flowers for the Littleham Community. It will also give produce to use in the Community Café on Tuesdays and places to sit outside and sample it in the summer months. The whole concept was put forward as a Littleham Churches (there are only two!) joint initiative and supported by Steve, Benedict, and our PCC. It has great potential, but needs our practical support too! Have a look at the detail:-
The wooden seating area shaded by the two trees at the west end of the garden and the different sized plant beds were all constructed on the Saturday. Note the broad beans already bedded in the centre. No problem rearranging the tables and seats (with unique cushions) for different groups as was done for the café on the following Tuesday.
Arbour entrance and covered plant swap structure at east end of the garden.
