There are a number of strategies that can be used to help your daughter recognise new words that she comes across during reading. These strategies are bullet pointed below.
Identify the initial sound .
Use finger blending - point to each sound from left to right and slowly blend the sounds together to read the word.
Break longer words down into smaller components.
Identify any phonics rules your daughter already knows (two vowels / magic ‘e’ etc)
Can you use the word in a sentence?
What does the word mean?
Can you find the word on any other pages?
