Julie Warum

About

Julie Warum is a literacy leader, curriculum developer, children's author, and educational consultant with more than 30 years of experience helping children become confident readers and writers. She is the founder of Literacy Lift, LLC, whose mission is to inspire a love of reading, writing, and creativity while equipping educators, families, and students with research-based literacy practices that foster lifelong success.

Through Literacy Lift, Julie partners with schools, educational organizations, and technology companies to develop high-quality literacy resources grounded in the Science of Reading. As a literacy consultant for the AI education company Snorkl, she designed K–2 literacy curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards, refined AI-generated instructional feedback, and advised company leaders on evidence-based literacy instruction. She was also selected to present her work during a national Snorkl webinar.

Before founding Literacy Lift, Julie spent more than three decades teaching in Detroit and Northville Public Schools, where she taught students in grades K–5 and served as a curriculum writer, literacy leader, and professional learning facilitator. Her work included leading Teacher Labs, mentoring educators, developing district curriculum, revising, aligning, and integrating UFLI lessons, Kindergarten - Second grades, into Northville Public Schools' online curriculum library, designing phonemic awareness resources, delivering professional learning in literacy, and supporting school-wide literacy initiatives. 

Julie is the author of The Backyard Bandit Series, which combines engaging stories with embedded Science of Reading supports, rich vocabulary instruction, critical-thinking questions, and companion Coloring & Writing Journals featuring Common Core State Standards–aligned writing prompts. She is a frequent presenter at literacy conferences, schools, libraries, and educational events throughout Michigan.

Julie holds three degrees in education, including a Master of Arts in Reading and Language Arts, and completed LETRS training with a 98% average. Her passion is helping children experience the joy of reading while empowering educators and families with practical, research-based literacy tools.
