Nyabinghi is the main genre used in a religious setting; it consists of chanting with accompaniment by drums. The lyrics are usually " Ideas of black redemption and repatriation."
There are many types of Rastafarian music like Reggae, drumming and, Nyabinghi. All of these can create many different moods but mainly it gives a sense of upliftment and freedom.
It has a heterophonic texture (many performers playing the same melody) with the drums sometimes playing the same melody or a supporting one. With this way of chanting and a mix of African drumming, it involves everyone at the celebration as a powerful expression of Rasta spirituality.
