The Information Age has changed people, technology, science, economics, culture, and even the way the people think. The Internet is arguably the most prominent innovation of the Information Age. The Internet changed the way people do everything. It has made the people lazier, but it also made most of the population smarter. It has made the industrial countries stronger; hence, economics receive more from them and keep the world turning. People are becoming more mature and more educated due to things like the computer and the Internet. This time period has reshaped governments with new technology being developed every day. But because of these developments, new laws had to be enacted to stop hacking, piracy, and identity theft, and other cybercrimes.
The Information Age is now. Without the information, knowledge and discoveries of those from the past, we would not be where we are today. The past has shaped our present and will continue to shape our future.
Impacts of Information Age
The Information Age has brought many new inventions and innovations. Different modes of communication services emerged such as texting, emails, video calls, and the social media. People learn new languages easier and books have been translated in different languages, as people around the world become more educated. Information Age is also known as the Entrepreneurship Age. Nowadays, entrepreneurs can start and run a company easier and faster than before. Jobs have also been easier, and some jobs can also be done in the comfort of their own homes.
However, the Information Age is not all good. There are people in the world who believed that they can live their entire life through the internet world. There are huge criminal organizations hacking governments’ and companies’ systems and obtaining confidential information to continue their way of life. It also impacts in our work ethics by distracting us and causing to lose interest , in the task we are doing. For the students, they tend to play video games than focusing on their studies. It has also created job shortage because machines are now being used to do the work humans once did.
Nevertheless, considering the many benefits we get from these technologies, we must also be responsible in utilizing them to avoid harming others and ourselves. Here are some rules of netiquettes that may help us when using the social media:
1. Remember the human
- When you’re holding a conversation online remember that your correspondent is a person with feelings more or less like your own.
2. Adhere to the same standards of behaviour online that you follow in real life
3. Know that you are in a cyberspace
- What’s perfectly acceptable in one area may be dreadfully rude in another.
4. Respect other people’s time and bandwidth
- When you send email or post to others, make sure that the time they spend reading your posts is not wasted.
1. Make yourself look good online
- Pay attention to the content of what you are writing. Bad information propagates like wildfire on the net.
2. Share expert knowledge
- Remember that internet itself was founded and grew because scientists wanted to share knowledgeable information.
7. Help keep flame wars under control
- “Flaming” is what people do when they express a strongly held opinion without holding back any emotion.
8. Respect other people’s privacy
9. Don’t abuse your power
10.Be forgiving of other people’s mistakes
- If you decide to inform someone of a mistake, point it out politely and preferably by private email rather than in public.
