WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps, with plenty of options to stay connected with family and friends. In 2021, WhatsApp added support for linked devices, letting you use the app across multiple devices. But the downside was that you could only connect one phone to a single WhatsApp account.

That changed with the April 2023 update, which launched Companion mode. This mode allows users to link up to four additional devices, including phones. Here's how you can set up WhatsApp's Companion mode on a Google Pixel or any other top budget Android phone.

Companion mode allows you to use a single WhatsApp account on all your devices. Chats, contacts, and groups will be synchronized across devices. You can link up to five devices to your WhatsApp account.

Although the set-up process is similar to the existing Linked devices function (more on that below), WhatsApp's Companion mode is different as it is designed specifically for smartphones. The feature was officially released on April 25, 2023.

Before you set up Companion Mode, make sure you're running the most recent version of the app. You can download the WhatsApp Messenger app from the Google Play Store or the App Store on iOS. Android users can also download the APK on WhatsApp's website.

Tap the green Link a device button. Scan the QR code displayed on your other phone. Alternatively, select Link with phone number instead. Open WhatsApp Web on the secondary phone and enter your phone number to receive a one-time passcode to link both devices. Your secondary phone starts synchronizing your messages.

With Companion mode, you can use WhatsApp on up to five phones at the same time. And the icing on the cake is that WhatsApp works on your secondary phone even without a SIM card. You can enjoy most of the features WhatsApp offers on your secondary phone, such as sending and receiving messages, images, and videos. You can also make and receive WhatsApp voice and video calls from your secondary phone. And if that's not enough, make the most of WhatsApp with these tips and tricks.

When you link your primary phone to another device, WhatsApp will send an encrypted copy of your recent message history. This data is stored locally on each device. If you do not see an older message on a companion device, you should be able to find the message on your primary phone.

I found the problem. the phone number field had parentheses and dashes, which messed up the URL link. I'm not sure why it was working on android though. Rather than fix all of the phone numbers, I modified the expression to remove all of the special characters using SUBSTITUTE(). Here is the new expression, which works on iOS.

To me it seems like the authentication for linking a device is meant to be rolled out to everyone. If someone does not have it yet, it's because a) he might not have updated the app yet or b) WhatsApp is publishing its new versions as a staged rollout, so not everyone is going to get it the same time.

WhatsApp has introduced new functionality to its Linked Devices feature that lets you connect more than one Android phone to your main account. Previously you could only use one phone with the feature.

WhatsApp rolled out the functionality without making a blog post, in-app notification, or mentioning it in the Google Play Store update notes. The functionality was spotted by Reframed and MUO tested the feature to confirm its availability. We tested the feature with three phones in total (primary device and two extras) and were able to sync all devices.

Previously, you could only link computers and laptops to your WhatsApp account using WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop. WhatsApp also recently rolled out the ability to use WhatsApp on your Android tablet. But previous limitations meant that only one phone could be added to your device list.

The new feature now means that users can add extra Android phones to their device list too. To do so, install the latest version of WhatsApp on an Android phone that doesn't already have an account on it.

Open the app and select your language. Then, when you're prompted to enter your phone number, click the three dots on the top right and select Link a device. WhatsApp will then give you a QR code to scan with your primary phone.

To scan the QR code, open WhatsApp on your primary device and tap the three dots in the top right corner. Select Linked devices, then tap the Link a device button. Then scan the QR code on your secondary device.

Once you've done this, WhatsApp will load and sync your messages on both phones. The new device will show up as Android on your list of connected, active devices on your primary phone. We were able to do this with an additional phone, linking three phones to one WhatsApp account. However, only the primary device can add more connected sessions.

I'm still looking for the solution to be used when the OS is Android (as the above doesn't work).

I guess it is somehow related to using "intent" in Android, but I couldn't figure out how to do it as parameter for href.

To create your own link with a pre-filled message that will automatically appear in the text field of a chat, use =urlencodedtext where whatsappphonenumber is a full phone number in international format and URL-encodedtext is the URL-encoded pre-filled message.

I've been playing with it for a while, and I couldn't make it to work. The most I got was to open the WhatsApp application from Chrome, but I couldn't figure out a way to set the message content and recipient.

Just tested the whatsapp:// scheme on my super old Android 2.3.3 with Whats App 2.11.301, works like a charm. It seems to be just the Whats App version. Since Whats App is forcing everyone to update, it should be safe to use it.

The pre-filled message will automatically appear in the text field of a chat. Use =urlencodedtext where whatsappphonenumber is a full phone number in international format and urlencodedtext is the URL-encoded pre-filled message.

If your main WhatsApp gadget is an iPhone, after checking if you have the latest version of the app on both the primary and new device, do the following to add a new companion smartphone to your account:

While using WhatsApp on multiple smartphones is a great feature, there are a few things you cannot do on secondary devices. For instance, you can only link a new device to your WhatsApp account using your primary phone that has the phone number registered to WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has finally rolled out one of its biggest features for both Android and iOS. Announcing the ability to link one WhatsApp account on multiple devices, WhatsApp now allows users to link one WhatsApp account to multiple phones and use them at the same time. Until now, WhatsApp only allowed linking of mobile phone with desktops and laptops. But with the latest update, all that is about to change.

"Last year, we introduced the ability for users globally to message seamlessly across all their devices, while maintaining the same level of privacy and security. Today, we're improving our multi-device offering further by introducing the ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones," WhatsApp said. 152ee80cbc
